This page lists where to get the last or more recent versions of certain applications for Mac OS X on PowerPC.
TenFourFox is a fast, efficient Web browser always based on the current version of Firefox. I had been thinking that I was running a very old version of Thunderbird, but the updater reports I'm using the latest version. I downloaded tenfourbird, but I can't run it as 'PowerPC applications are no longer supported'. LibreOffice
The last official version for Tiger and Leopard is 4.0.6.2.
There also exist newer unofficial versions for Leopard.
LibreOffice requires a fast machine; a Sawtooth is not really fast enough.
DOSBox
Version 0.74-3 (currently the latest) still works at least on a G4 with Tiger. However, 0.74-2 seems to be faster, at least with default settings.
Java for Tiger
A clean installation of Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Security Update 2009-005 only gives you Java 1.4.2_07, which might be too old for your needs. The last version for Tiger is 1.5.0_19. It can only be obtained by installing the following updates in order:

- Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Release 2. This gives you 1.4.2_09.
- J2SE 5.0 Release 4. This gives you 1.5.0_06.
- Java for Mac OS X 10.4 Release 5. This gives you 1.5.0_07.
- Java for Mac OS X 10.4 Release 6. This gives you 1.5.0_13.
- Java for Mac OS X 10.4 Release 7. This gives you 1.5.0_16.
- Java for Mac OS X 10.4 Release 8. This update is very small and doesn't change the version, but it is still required.
- Java for Mac OS X 10.4 Release 9. This gives you 1.5.0_19.
Note: this is useful mostly for compiling or running local Java applications from trusted sources. Because of security vulnerabilities, it is better to avoid Java applets on Web pages, or use SandboxSafari.

- This is the last version that can be compiled for Tiger because of the missing functions gethostuuid, OSAtomicCompareAndSwapPtrBarrier, and possibly more. Newer versions may compile for Leopard.
- UnRAR 5.70 beta 1 (compiled on )
- Note: this program cannot create RAR archives, only extract from them.
- The last official precompiled version is 4.07, which claims to be 4.0, but the file itself is newer than RAR 4.01 above.
