Rockmelt
Rockmelt Rockmelt was a proprietary social media web browser developed by Tim Howes and Eric Vishria based on the Google Chromium project, incorporating social media features such as Facebook chat, Twitter notifications and widgetised areas for other content providers such as YouTube and local newspapers. As Rockmelt is freeware, it can't be repackaged without permission (it's illegal, and we only do legal software). I've dropped them a note to request permission for us to do it or offer to assist them with packaging it for portable use. RockMelt is a cloud-based social media browser that's been available for Mac and PC desktops since November, but now it's available for iPhone. Take a look at the video above, and you'll see that. RockMelt—which is built over the Google Chrome browser—is the brainchild of the founders of Netscape, one of the original browsers. It's still in beta, but you can request an invitation to try.

The Rockmelt web browser project was backed by Netscape founder Marc Andreessen. As of April 2013, Rockmelt's desktop web browser is discontinued, and has been superseded by a collaborative project bringing together social elements from various sources, including Facebook, Forbes and Business Insider.Although the browser was launched in private beta on November 8, 2010 for desktop, it is not currently supported on the PC or Mac due to work on the iPad and other mobile releases. Rockmelt is now exclusively for iOS and Android with versions for Windows 8, and desktop planned.Rockmelt was created by Rockmelt, Inc., located in Mountain View, California. The first version of their web browser was released November 8, 2010 and the final version, 2.2.0, was released February 9, 2013.On August 2, 2013, Rockmelt was acquired by Yahoo!. Rockmelt’s apps and website was shut down after August 31, 2013. Yahoo! plans to integrate Rockmelt’s technology throughout various products.
